Where do we start?
We start with an in-home assessment. This is usually about one hour. We look at the space together and discuss what's working, what's not working, and the biggest challenges you face in the space. Don't feel compelled to "clean up" before we arrive. It is helpful to truthfully see the challenges you are facing.
How long will this take?
It is very difficult to give an estimate on how long a project will take because there are so many varying factors in the process such as the size of the space, the contents, and the client's own feelings about the items being organized. Should your project need more than one session together, "homework" projects can be suggested allowing you to work on the area between appointments - saving you time and money!
Am I involved in the organizing process?
We aim to teach organizing and maintenance skills and this requires the client's active participation. Therefore, we work WITH our clients on the space. We help you through the process of purging and decluttering, and establish the systems to keep your space in order. Being an integral part of the process helps ensure that the systems work best for YOU!
I'm not sure I need one-on-one help. Can I do this on my own?
Some self-starters find that they can handle the organizing process on their own with some guidance. For these clients Simple Spaces offers Decluttering Support Groups and virtual coaching.
What should I buy prior to starting?
Nothing! Most of our intial supplies are things that you probably already have in your home. We try to use what you have before bringing more things into your home. As we go through the process we may identify products that will be helpful. We will help make a very specific list of items to buy that includes measurements, styles, and colors. Check out our Products page for some of our commonly suggested items. At organizing sessions we do ask that you have black and white trash bags available. A few boxes or bins are also helpful for sorting.
What items do you bring?
We come prepared! In our workbags we have lots of organizing goodies, including markers, sticky notes, tape measures, and our all time favorite: the label maker!
We generally follow up with you a few weeks after the project is completed to make sure that the space is working to fit your needs. Of course, you are always welcome to contact us with any questions.
How do I maintain the space?
As we organize together we will set up systems for maintenance. We will discuss what routines, reminders, and strategies best fit you and your family to make maintenance as simple as possible.
